Materials Management - Zero Waste Ambitions

Materials Management

EPS has been supporting a client with their aims to achieve ‘Zero Waste’ on a multi-phased redevelopment of a former RAF base into a strategic warehousing site. To date, three project phases have been delivered with 8 industrial units covering approximately 27,000 square metres. Our approach to material management has contributed to just under 50,000 cubic metres of soil being re-used on site. The impacts go beyond simple cost savings – thousands of unnecessary HGV journeys through small Lincolnshire roads have been avoided. We have also prevented landfills being filled with totally re-usable material.

Project: Former RAF base in Lincolnshire being developed into a strategic warehousing site.

Nature of site: Former RAF base: historic runway, footprints of former buildings and hangars.

Scope: EPS team has worked alongside retained engineers to collate information and review previous reports in order to develop Material Management Plans (MMPs) for each phase. U1 exemptions were explored and employed to further reduce export of waste soils. Supplementary testing of soils to inform material management strategy including MMP, U1 etc. Verification of MMP and Remedial Measures.

Client: National Construction Company

Duration of works: 2018-2021 (with potential future phases)
